The Cave

He came to the entrance of the cave and basked in the warm morning sunshine.
The birds were singing and a soft breeze was blowing.
Overhead giant clouds billowed against a blue sky.
The gurgling sound of the nearby spring was soothing background music.
A blue butterfly circled some nearby flowers.
It was a perfect day, a perfect time, and all seemed right in the world of nature.

But, he reminded himself, all things were not right in the world of men.
He had been out on his nightly rounds and observed the total destruction of his people.
The battles were finished, the wars were over.
Only one had survived.
No, Ether couldn't enjoy the beauty of nature this day.
He had to mourn.
He must record the extinction of his people..
